Smoothie of the Week #5: A-pear-ently Green

pear_smoothieOkay, back into the smoothie action! This week we’re going green… all different shades of green! Showcased in both fruit and vegetable variables!

I had never done a smoothie with pears. So I had pears in mind for this week, but then, I couldn’t decide what to… pair (haha) with them!

I overbought on produce this week, so I had plenty of options in my fridge with which to experiment. And after a few ‘good,’ but not fabulous attempts, this little emerald beauty emerged from my blender, and I got to have a little “Eureka!” moment (blender pitcher held high!) in the kitchen.

Tastes nothing like leaves, or twigs or any other forest foliage you may assocaite with green drinks. It’s just pleasant and happy, and goes well with morning and breakfast (well…that’s when I like to drink it, anyway).


Makes 1 smoothie


1 medium Pear (I used a green Anjou)

A big handful of Spinach (roughly 1/2 cup, tightly packed)

1 stalk Celery

1/2 a small Banana (frozen)

1 heaping Tbsp Flaxmeal

Juice from 1/2 a Lime

1/2 cup cold Water

Toss it all in a blending device and blend until smooth (approx. 30 sec – 1 minute depending on the device).

Pour. Sip. Smile!
